Simon Beaufoy is up to direct a film for Dreamworks. But wait, there's more: it's for Dreamworks Animation. And it's called Truckers. No title has been confirmed but there's an inkling going round that it's Terry Pratchett's Truckers...

Truckers, the first book in his Bromeliad trilogy - Truckers, Diggers and Wings - tells of the tiny people called Nomes, who have to leave their department store home when they discover it's about to be knocked down. An excellent children's series (and a charming forerunner to the Discworld), the prospect of an animated version is undeniably exciting.

But where's the Beaufoy connection? Well, Danny Boyle was working on a Bromeliad adaptation for Dreamworks, but it never got far off the ground. Now, his Oscar-winning Slumdog collaborator is penning (and helming) a suspiciously titled project for the same studio. Even if you haven't read the vehicular-based books (and you should - they're good), it's hard not to be just a little intrigued...
