Director: Tom Hooper Cast: Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Gambon, Guy Pearce Certificate: 12A Poor Bertie (Firth). He has to deal with something most of us hate: public speaking. He fluffs his way through a speech at a twin-towered Wembley, packed full of people for the closing ceremony for the Empire Exhibition. Not a good start for the King’s second son.

Clint Eastwood has rubbished the recent rumours that Joaquin Phoenix was lined up for a part in his upcoming biopic of J Edgar Hoover. Hoover, the founder of the FBI, has been the subject of Clint's attention for a while now, with Leonardo DiCaprio attached to the lead role. Phoenix was thought to play Hoover's reputed lover Clyde Tolson, also involved in the FBI's early days.
But Eastwood has confirmed this isn't the case. Indicating that DiCaprio was still in talks with the studio to star, he commented:
"He was a very complex person. The homosexual aspect is just one of many. I would say that’s the least of his problems. But he was also very clever, whether rightfully or wrongfully, he was very clever about keeping himself in a certain position in life, so it is an interesting study… He is a fascinating character, and I think I am the right person to do it , not because I knew him or anything, but I did grow up with him…He was an iconic figure."
Scripted by Milk's Dustin Lance Black, the angle of the story is still unsure - but presumably Hoover's sexuality will form a central part of this tale, which seems to be drifting towards his perspective on events. Regarding Joaquin Phoenix, Eastwood added:
"No. I don’t know where that came from…didn’t he become a rapper?"

Director: Bernard Rose Cast: Rhys Ifans, Chloe Sevigny, David Thewlis Certificate: 18
Stoned. Likeable. Welsh. A real stretch for Rhys Ifans. Who knows what they would have done if Notting Hill’s "masturbating Welshman" had never graced our screens in his y-fronts.

As the world recovers from hearing I'm Still Here was a piece of performance art (what others would call a hoax), Joaquin Phoenix's acting career looks set to be back on track: he's Clint Eastwood's man of choice to play Clyde Tolson in his J Edgar Hoover biopic. Tolson, regarded as Hoover's protege, had a very intimate relationship with Hoover. Officially described as fraternal, their connection was very close. As in, Luke Skywalker and Obi Wan close, if you catch the drift. The two men ate together, travelled together, hit the town together - at Hoover's funeral, the US flag was even presented to Tolson, who was also the one to receive J Edgar's estate after his death.
Milk's Dustin Lance Black is scribbling the screenplay, focussing on the bond between the men (as opposed to, say, an action film about the founding of the FBI). Joaquin Phoenix is expected to get the nod to play J Edgar's "alter ego" as soon as Leonardo DiCaprio signs on as Hoover.
It's a great role for Phoenix to pick up, and he and DiCaprio would make a cute couple. So cute that the Oscars would definitely be showing an interest. Which is why there are rumours that Casey Affleck's I'm Still Here announcement (which arguably came very early on and spoiled the film a tad) was timed specifically for him to land the part.

"It's all part of the bigger picture, Pam! Philanthropy. The academy. My foundation. The restaurants. The boats. The hotels..." Jack Abramoff is an American legend. Not necessarily of the best kind. Charming the hell out of everyone he met, Abramof took money as a lobbyist from the country's biggest firms. And then pocketed it for himself. And now Kevin Spacey will bring that man to life. And you can see him in action in the new trailer for Casino Jack.
Directed by George Hickenlooper, Casino Jack follows on from a documentary about Abramoff (called Casino Jack and the United States of Money). So you can see how fascinating a figure Jack was. It helps, of course, that he and partner Michael Scanlon (Barry Pepper) ended up on the wrong side of the mafia before the Feds descended to investigate his dodgy dealings.
"Inspired by" Jack's story, the film will fictionalise the facts a tad, but only in honour of making it an entertaining movie. Which, let's face it, it already is. Oh, and in case you were wondering: yes, Casino Jack's now in prison.
The trailer's online over at Apple, but you can read on for the full video.

When you're making a biopic of Freddie Mercury, what actor do you imagine donning spandex and a moustache? Yes, GK Films thought of Sacha Baron Cohen too.
The Bruno and Borat star has signed on to play Queen's front man in GK's upcoming music movie. It will follow the formative years of Queen as the band gradually rise to success, culminating in their performance at Live Aid in 1985.
Scripted by Peter Morgan (now tackling a different type of Queen - ho ho ho), this is one of those rare band pictures that sounds promising from the very start. Especially because Baron Cohen would probably love taking a pop at screaming Flash Gordon's high notes. GK Film's Graham King is certainly excited:
"Queen is one of the greatest rock bands of all time, and a music brand all unto itself," King's statement announced. "Freddie Mercury was an awe-inspiring performer, so with Sacha in the starring role coupled with Peter’s screenplay and the support of Queen, we have the perfect combination to tell the real story behind their success." Rock on, Sacha Baron Cohen. Rather this than We Will Rock You on stage. Especially as it's a chance to hear Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions and Another One Bites The Dust on the big screen. The main question now is: who will they cast as Brian May? Someone's presumably already mentioned Michael Sheen...

If Facebook were granted terra firma, it would be the world's third largest country by population. FACT. Where can one get such incredible knowledge? From The Social Network's interactive trailer. Yes, following in Scott Pilgrim's footsteps, The Social Network has got itself a brand new trailer. And it's interactive. And stuff. Want to waste your life clicking links, poking Jesse Eisenberg, and looking at photos of people cooler than you? Screw Facebook, this is way better.
Boasting around 40 fried slices of solid info, the interactive factoids span everything from director David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin's script to the history of Facebook itself - who the hell is Eduardo Saverin?
To find out that stuff and more besides, read on for the full video (which is on the movie's official site). The Social Network is out in UK cinemas on Friday 15th October. And judging by the reactions at Toronto, it's awesome. But more important than that: it's interactive.

In one of the world's more inspired casting decisions, John Cusack will play Edgar Allen Poe in The Raven. No, that's not an adaptation of The Raven. And no, it's not a biopic either. Directed by V for Vendetta's James McTeigue, The Raven takes place during the last five days of Poe's life. When a killer with an unhealthy Poe obsession is bumping off folks in the Edgar Allen style.
It's either first-grade fan fiction of the trashiest variety, or it's an amazingly brilliant movie waiting to happen. Either way, it's a chance for Cusack to shine in a weird role with snazzy period dress.
The part of Poe fell to Cusack after Ewan McGregor dropped out, Jeremy Renner ditched it for Mission: Impossible 4 and Joaquin Phoenix had a mental breakdown. The actor, who was last seen in Hot Tub Time Machine, announced it via Twitter.
The Raven starts shooting in October in Budapest and Serbia.

Geeks have long ruled Hollywood - the geeky fans, that is, who like comic books and video games. But thanks to David Fincher's The Social Network, the other geeks are starting to muscle in on the big screen: the rich successful ones who founded stuff like Facebook. Or Google. And now both of their founders have a movie on the way. Yes, Larry Page and Sergey Brin will soon be in a multiplex near you, bringing you the harrowing tale of how they invented a website that changed the world. What an original idea.
Groundswell Productions have bought the rights to the requisite book, Ken Auletta’s cheerfully titled paperback Googled: The End of the World As We Know it. It tells the story of how Sergey and Larry defied their stageshow magician names and, while students at Stanford, tried to invent a way to make money without "doing evil".
"It's about these two young guys who created a company that changed the world, and how the world in turn changed them," producer Michael London explained to Deadline. "The heart of the movie is their wonderful edict: don't be evil."
As the company start to release their own operating system, taking over even more of the computer world, it'll be interesting to see how the movie develops. You never know, it may put Google officially on the map (ahem). Or at least make the way for Bill Gates: A Window Into His Soul, or, even better, Twitter: The Movie. Read on for an awesome trailer for that one.
