If you've seen the trailer for Chronicle, you've either groaned at the thought of yet another found-footage movie or been bored by the idea of yet another superhero with a gritty, modern origins story. But Josh Trank's sci-fi takes that tired genre and the tried-and-tested format and comes up with a brilliant play on both.

Did Spider-Man spend his formative months pranking people at the supermarket? Did ickle Magneto shuffle around parked cars for a laugh? Andrew (DeHaan) does. He also gets beaten up by his alcoholic father (Kelly) on a nightly basis. And carries a video camera around with him all day.

Kung Fu Panda 2 kicked the UK Box Office's ass this week, taking £6.19m in its first weekend.

That's a massive relief for everyone who thought that The Hangover Part II might grab hold of the top spot, proving that there's nothing as satisfying as seeing an overweight panda punch Bradley Cooper in the face.

Yes, that figure includes previews and 3D ticket prices, but it's still officially a step up from the first Kung Fu Panda, which opened on £6m, so DreamWorks will be fairly chuffed to see their chubby dragon warrior bringing in the kids. With Rio finally down at number ten in the UK charts, expect the Kung Fu Panda to stick around well into the summer holidays.

The Hangover 2 is still terrifyingly successful in second place. It dropped 28% to take under £3m in its third week, but is now on a total of over £26m. Warner Bros will be laughing.

A big blonde guy with a massive hammer? Yep, that’s Thor (Hemsworth), a hunky cape-wearing fellow known to most people as the Norse God of Thunder. This is the Marvel version of the myth, complete with a one-eyed Anthony Hopkins and a whole bunch of adverts for The Avengers. But forget Marvel’s upcoming superhero slate: Thor is a thundering success on its own.

After that preview at Superbowl, the lack of a full trailer for Captain America was starting to worry the Marvel crowd. We could almost have pieced it together ourselves from all the 6 second clips that kept turning up online - someone probably did. But it's here now. And it's good.

Running through the movie's basic set up (Steve Rogers is a wuss, gets experimented on, hello Mr. Buff), it's nothing revelatory in terms of plot, but it does give us a look at Chris Evans' pathetic damp squib before he gets his Super Soldier on. It's surprising how much a floppy fringe can do. That and a bucketload of CGI. It sort of works. In a weird kind of way.

It's not as exciting as Thor in my books and will no doubt wind up a lot like the other superhero flicks we've had to put up with, but Marvel's flagship Avengers preview shows no sign of dropping the ball yet. And by ball I mean shield, of course. Kudos to Joe Johnston, too - here's hoping it doesn't go all Wolfman on us.

After fifteen billion hours of waiting, counting and clicking on the Arthur trailer out of boredom, the X-Men: First Class trailer has finally turned up online over at the prequel's official Facebook page. Read on to see it...

Yeah, we all know that banner from the other day was leaked/not leaked/official/unofficial/completely naff, but Fox have responded by going right ahead with the release of the first official photos of X-Men: First Class. And they're a lot more reassuring to look at, especially in terms of the period costumes.

Here's a little taster. Hands up if you don't wet yourself.

Read on for the other images and the rather awesome teaser poster that turned up at AICN. Maybe it's Professor X's stylish beige jacket, Kevin Bacon's sideburns or THAT white jumpsuit on January Jones, but things are starting to a lot more like the film I was hoping for...

Batman. Spider-Man. Wolverine. For years, fans have been waiting for a character to laugh at. But now we can laugh at something other than Tobey Maguire: Seth Rogen’s stepped into a superhero costume. And he’s not afraid to be funny. In fact, he’s good at it. And he kicks ass too. He does both. Very well.

"It's not easy to do what you did... You made my men look like a bunch of minimum wage mal cops."

It's a lot like the Comic-Con footage shown before (no surprise given it's a mere fraction of the length) but at the end of the day, it's got a blonde dude (Chris Hemsworth), Natalie Portman, and a massive hammer. What more could you want? Anthony Hopkins in a golden eyepatch, perhaps? You've got that as well. The world-melding plot of Kenneth Branagh's 3D take on the comic book figure of legend may not set your manly eyebrows on fire, but it's got a potential to at least be different to Iron Man 3.

Can Kenneth Branagh pull this off after the glut of superhero movies we've had to put up with? It's not looking completely impossible judging by this new Thor trailer. It's out on Friday 29th April. Read on for the full video.

The full-size submarine created for Captain America has turned up. In Liverpool. More specifically, in The Daily Post.

Yes, in a triumph for local reporting, Liverpool's Post has published exclusive photos of the sub on set in Stanley Dock, which has been transformed into 1940s New York.

Rumours of a boat being built have apparently been going round Liverpool for a while - some even thought a German U-Boat was being constructed - but now locals have got a glimpse of Marvel's heavily guarded set.

Directed by Joe Johnston, Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans as the titular superhero. It tells the origins of soldier Steve Rogers, who undergoes a series of experiments to become a super warrior.
