Martha Marcy May Marlene

Terrifying and beautiful, this might well be the best film of 2012.

Review: Acts of Godfrey

84 minutes of rhyming couplets? It sounds well annoying but I actually loved it.

Review: The Descendants

Nice film, shame about the voiceover.

Tinker Tailor Whack-a-Mole

There's a mole at the top of The Circus. Can you bash its face in?

Review: Like Crazy

A superb anti-rom-com that breaks some cliches and obeys others, which only makes it more moving.

Review: Shame

A devastating, magnificent film that trades almost solely in sex – and yet looks right through it.

Review: Coriolanus

Like Olivier and Branagh before him, Fiennes makes Shakespeare as gripping as it ever was. Verily, Voldemort did good.

If Newsreaders Did Shakespeare...

Inspired by Jon Snow's role in Coriolanus, here are some other Shakespeare adaptations starring newsreaders.

Review: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

After Benjamin Button and The Social Network, this feels like Fincher back in Se7en territory. Grizzled, haunting and beautiful.

Woody at the BFI

As the BFI's season of Woody Allen films continues, we look back at some of the director's best (and worst) films.

The Artist

A feel-good treat, pure and simple. You’ll swoon, you’ll sigh, you’ll want to tap dance.

George Clooney, Evan Rachel Wood - Ides of March premiere, London Film Festival

There’s something about George Clooney. Maybe it’s his good looks. His charming smile. His irresistible charisma. His twinkly eyes.

Whatever it is, there’s something about Old Cloonmeister that makes women swoon, men smile, and journalists constantly ask the same questions about his girlfriend or his children.

But of course, Clooney is more than that. He’s a producer, a director and the co-writer of The Ides of March, based on Beau Willimon’s play, Farragut North.

A gripping tale of corruption, ambition and morals during a presidential election, Ides is a smart drama that makes intelligent (if already well-known) points about the political industry.

With this sophisticated depth in mind, here are five things we learned at The Ides of March premiere:

Like Crazy London Film Festival Felicity Jones red carpet

It's a scientifically proven fact that Felicity Jones is awesome. Chalet Girl, Cemetery Junction, Dr Who - there's nothing she can do wrong. She even made The Archers awesome when she was a teen. You just have to look at the response she's been getting for Like Crazy (a Sundance Festival hit) to realise that she's heading for big things very soon.

A painful tale of a long-distance romance between Jacob (Anton Yelchin) and Anna (Jones), Like Crazy has been hailed by many folks (I annoyingly still haven't seen it) as a non-cliched indie flick with a natural charm. So it was good to get a chance to holler some brief questions at the Chalet Girl star and director Drake Doremus as they strolled past Leicester Square's glamorous construction work and into the Vue West End for Like Crazy's European Premiere.

Of course, it didn't take me long to come up with questions for her. They mostly went something like this.

But my Felicity Jones crush aside, here are six things we learned on the Like Crazy red carpet (not including the discovery that other people share my love of Chalet Girl):

Vampires and children and hammers, oh my! Not your average Thursday night out, unless you're off to shout things at the people who remade Let the Right One In. But Let Me In stands up well against its Swedish original (despite their shoddy CGI decision), and Matt Reeves, Simon Oakes and Kodi Smit-McPhee were proud of what they've achieved. Namely bringing Tomas Alfredson's superbly sinister romance to a subtitle-fearing audience.

So naturally the topic of remaking such a highly regarded movie came up. But so did Daniel Radcliffe, Christopher Lee and an extraordinarily bright green suit.

We received a rather hostile email from some people today, demanding that we release this video of Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe.

Ickle Danny Radcliffe, who grew up on screens in front of our eyes, has been kidnapped and is now being held hostage. He has been filmed reading off a piece of paper in a bid to persuade his tormentors to release him from a box buried somewhere underground.

The main gist of the recorded message? You have 50 days to do something, or Daniel Radcliffe will die. He will cease to be The Boy Who Lived. He will be an ex-Gryffindor. Or his new film will be released. It's one of those anyway.

For more footage of the trapped actor - and to win one of the 30 remaining tickets to his release party - head over to the official Deathly Hallows Facebook page

Cinema's new odd couple, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, descended upon London last night for the premiere of Adam McKay's cop comedy, The Other Guys. Leicester Square was cordoned off by police tape as the two unlikely detectives walked the beat down the carpet to the sound of screaming fans.

Despite their arguments over who would win in a fight between a lion and a tuna, the two stars were more than happy to take time out to say hi to the crowds. Looking dapper in their suits (especially Will Ferrell with his afro and sideburns), they were joined by Eva Mendes and Anchorman director McKay to brave London's glorious rain.

The Other Guys sees paperwork-lover Alan Gamble and mentally unhinged Terry Hoitz take the frontline in crime-fighting when the real cops are taken out of the picture. They're incompetent, annoying and drive around in a Toyota Prius.

Fortunately Ferrell and Wahlberg didn't turn up in the Prius last night. Even more fortunate than that, no-one was threatening to jump off any nearby buildings.

The Other Guys is in cinemas on Friday 17th September (our review's over here). Read on to see the water-logged glamour of the premiere for yourself in our lovely rain-soaked video.

Leicester Square turned blue last night for the world premiere of Going the Distance, a rom-com that sees wannabe journalist Drew Barrymore and record company desk-monkey Justin Long hook up in New York and then keep the relationship going from opposite sides of the States.

Travelling all the way to London to show off their likeable movie, Justin and Drew strutted their stuff on the blue carpet (sexy photos are over here in our gallery). Joining the two leads were co-star Oliver Jackson-Cohen, director Nanette Burstein and the movie's unsigned band The Boxer Rebellion. And we were there to shout questions at all of them. Especially Justin Long - whose favourite movie soundtracks apparently include The Princess Bride and Back to the Future.

There's nothing like a long distance relationship with Drew Barrymore. Or Justin Long. There's nothing like a close-up relationship, either, which is why we've assembled the sexiest and shiniest photos from last night's world premiere of Going the Distance.

Sporting a bright blue carpet, Leicester Square saw stars Drew and Justin stroll down the carpet past hordes of screaming fans, accompanied by unsigned band The Boxer Rebellion, co-star Oliver Jackson-Cohen and director Nanette Burstein.

A film about travelling miles to see that someone special, the stars were smiling after their long flight to the UK. Want to know what they were wearing? Wondering if the blue brought out the colour in Justin's eyebrows? Well, wonder no more folks - sample the delights of ET's finest leading lady and Dodgeball's wimpiest male, together for the first time. Professionally. Phwoar.

Fans lined up along Leicester Square last night to greet Angelina Jolie at the premiere of her latest film, Salt. The actress, who stars in the part famously written for Tom Cruise, smiled as she signed things for the crowds gathering around London's glamourous black carpet.

Salt, an action thriller now with a female lead, sees Jolie arrested for being a Russian spy, despite years of CIA service. On the run and trying to prove her innocence, she faces a slight problem: the more stuff she blows up, the guiltier she looks.

It's a topical subject thanks to recent events, not to mention a physically demanding part, but Jolie was happy to take up the challenge:

"I've done a lot of action movies, but I hadn't done one based in reality..." she explained, as fans shrieked in the background and men threw undergarments at her. Ok, so maybe the last bit's not true.

Like your action stars female and woman-like? Then check out the photos below of Angelina strutting her stuff up and down the black carpet. And, while you're at it, read on for a sexy video of the whole thing too.

Salt is released in cinemas on Wednesday 18th August.

You may think this is an ordinary Wednesday in August. You'd be wrong. It's actually 100 days until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1) is released - and Emma Watson's counting. Or someone else definitely is, because the actress who plays Hermione Granger announced that to mark the countdown, 100 tickets to the Deathly Hallows World Premiere would be given away.

Where? Why, on Facebook of course! And how? Via a new Harry Potter app (of course). The app, Join the Battle, is another step in the massive worldwide Potter frenzy as fans gear up for the concluding episodes of JK Rowling's phenomenally successful series.

Directed by Potter stalwart David Yates, Deathly Hallows is set to be the dark, gloomy, thrilling final movie that people dared to hope for, building up to the climactic battle of Hogwarts, which will probably end up taking up most of the film's second part.

Still unsure why there's so much buzz around one boy wizard? Check out the trailer over here (there's even a pretty poster of a building on fire), and readjust your wand settings. Then, if you fancy the chance to win a seat at the premiere, head over to the official Harry Potter UK Facebook Page. Or just watch Potter Puppet Pals for the 100th time - that won't win you the ticket, but it will keep that Potter high going.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1) hits cinemas on Friday 19th November. Part 2 will arrive on Friday 15th July 2011. You can start counting down to that one in your own spare time.
