Director: Neil Burger Cast: Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish, Robert De Niro Certificate: 15 It's not often you get to see a happy film about hard drugs. But just when you were getting sick of overdoses, deaths and grimy one-bed flats, along comes Limitless. It's loud, thrilling, fast-paced AND happy. It's the anti-Requiem for a Dream.

After the slight backlash on t'internet about the BAFTA Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award, some wise person on The Twitter suggested they do the opposite. Instead of people who have "captured the imagination of the British public", why not reward the people who have taken the public's imagination and exchanged it for All About Steve? So here I give you some suggested nominees for the inaugural i-Flicks Falling Star Award. Their careers are all on a downward trajectory after a rubbish film in the past year and/or a box office flop (each film's total UK gross is listed).
Who else should be up for the prize? Julia Roberts for Eat Pray Love? Robert De Niro for Machete? Johnny Depp for The Tourist? What about a writer? Or even a composer?
 | | | | | | | | | M Night Shyamalan The Sixth Sense helmer has been cooking up cold crud ever since Signs, but The Last Airbender's naffness has put an end to any studio prepared to risk pinning a franchise on him. Still, he's always got Devil (first of the "Night Chronicles" - Ha! He used his name!) to keep him company. The Last Airbender £4.23m | | Mel Gibson
An easy target, but I'm lazy. His work rate's slowed since Passion of the Christ and while Edge of Darkness was solid stuff, Mel's credibility went mid-2010 along with his ex-girlfriend and her tape recorder. The Hangover 2 rejected his cameo so his hopes hang on a beaver to stop him falling any further. Edge of Darkness £2.65m | | Tom Cruise Knight & Day was more fun than The Tourist, but Cruise's decreasing box office isn't doing him any favours (M:I 3 opened with twice as much money). A quick look ahead shows no roles to rival Magnolia any time soon. Unless you count Les Grossman or Mission: Impossible 4. Most wouldn't. Knight & Day £9.07m | | Brendan Fraser I enjoyed Journey to the Centre of the Earth, but Brendan's career now seems to revolve around Mummy sequels and CGI animals (hello, Furry Vengeance). What happened to the Gods and Monsters star who stole scenes from Michael Caine in The Quiet American? Seconds of Pleasure may give us an answer in 2012. I hope so. Furry Vengeance £3.3m | | Cameron Diaz After Shrek Forever After, Knight & Day counted as a good role for Hollywood's formerly highest paid actress. But look at her recent output: What Happens in Vegas? My Sister's Keeper? Even The Green Hornet gave her no character to play with. Bring back the days of Being John Malkovich and Gangs of New York. The Green Hornet £3.8m (running total) |
From the above shortlist, my money's on Mel. But suggestions, emails and tweets please: who would you nominate for the i-Flicks Falling Star Award? I may even open this up for voting in February, ready for the big BAFTA event. Presuming I can be bothered.

Well, we all wanted The Tourist to win, but the Hollywood Foreign Press Association stuck to the predictable choices for most of the Golden Globes last night: The Social Network won the big ones, Christian Bale and Natalie Portman picked up something each and, of course, Colin Firth got his gong for Best Actor.
Putting The King's Speech on solid ground for an Oscar win, The Firthmeister accepted the award with all the British charm he could muster - which is a lot. Less charming for some was host Ricky Gervais, who started off risky and ended up a tamed beast who stuck to reading off cards.
His opening monologue accused The Tourist of bribing people, and also covered Charlie Sheen and Mel Gibson. Gasps and frowns went round the room, and Gervais promptly disappeared for an hour before reappearing with a more serious face. Still, he did better than Andrew Garfield, who stuttered his way through trying to say the word "inspiring" and failing miserably. But hey, he looked good while doing it, so it's fine.
The very minor surprises of the night came from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross beating safe bet Alexandre Desplat to Best Score for The Social Network. Yes, that's right: Nine Inch Nails have now won a Golden Globe. Paul Giamatti also unexpectedly won Best Comedy Actor for Barney's Version, an award I thought would go to double-nominee Johnny Depp. The only other non-shock? In a Better World winning Best Foreign Language Film, proving that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association don't always just vote for Iñárritu by default.
But the best moment of the evening? The bit when Robert De Niro made a joke about Little Fockers. And 3D. And private schools. And immigration. It was a long acceptance speech for his Cecil B. DeMille Award, but The De Niro Stand-Up Hour won the Meet the Parents and Machete star back a lot of his credibility.
That was only rivalled by Lee Unkrich bashing down Justin Bieber, who presented him with the Best Animated Film award: "Were you even born when the original Toy Story was released?" Unkrich quipped. Sadly, he was.
Read on for the complete list of winners. And to see Ricky Gervais' opening monologue.

Directors: Robert Rogriguez, Ethan Maniquis Cast: Danny Trejo, Steven Seagal, Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Don Johnson, Jessica Alba Certificate: 18 Trailer Dirty Grindhouse fun or balls-out political commentary. You can't have both. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy bits of Machete, the feature spun off from the spoof trailer by blood-thirsty B-movie king Robert Rodriguez. As you'd expect, it's ridiculously stupid and unapologetically violent. A piece of trash and nothing more.

How many times can you hear Danny Trejo say his name and still get excited? It turns out quite a bit. The king of shooting people, shagging people and scaring them with his big knife, Trejo is on fine third-person form in Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse-inspired thriller.
"You could always text?" "Machete don't text."
(Machete sends text) "I thought you didn't text!" "Machete improvises." IS THERE NO END TO THIS B-MOVIE BRILLIANCE? He's like a Lolcat with a giant moustache.
Machete is out in the UK on Friday 26th November. Read on for the trailer - or head over to the official Machete Facebook page to make your own poster and win a PS3. And no, Machete don't play PS3. Machete has Wii.

Yes, you read that correctly: Danny Trejo is down for a film called Skinny Dip. With Michelle Rodriguez. But it's not what it sounds like. It is, in fact, what fans would have hoped for: a revenge thriller. Yes, the two Machete co-stars are reuniting for a movie about a young woman who kills a policeman. Hopefully there'll be more dead bodies than that - after all, the director knows what Danny Trejo can do. He's his son.
Gilbert Trejo, 22 years of age, will be co-directing Skinny Dip with Frankie Lantina. It's great news for the Trejo family, especially given that Gilbert seems like a definite chip off Danny's block: he met De Niro when he was nine and promptly did a "you talkin' to me?" impression at him.
Meanwhile, fans of Danny and Michelle's Machete partnership can get excited: the end credits for Rodriguez's Grindhouse-spawned B-Movie features references for two Machete sequels. Naturally titled Machete Kills and Machete Kills Again.

It's official everyone: Dustin Hoffman will be in Little Fockers. To clarify for those who think this is stating the obvious, he previously wasn't in it at all. But now Deadline have confirmed that Hoffman has returned for reshoots on the comedy. Little Fockers, the third in the Meet the Parents series, finished shooting a while back, albeit without Bernie Focker - he couldn't agree a deal to appear in the film. But Universal have agreed to splash some of their spare cash (Fockers finished under budget) on wooing Dustin back for additional "pivotal" scenes.
Hoffman joins the same cast as before, namely Barbra Streisand, Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller, for several scenes, along with the rest of the cast (including Owen Wilson and new characters Harvey Keitel and Jessica Alba) for a large final scene.
Test screening results are reported by Deadline's insider as being "54% excellent, 85% total favorable, 73% definitely recommend", which are actually quite strong. But the studio apparently want to "make it better; it's an investment for the future of the franchise".
Little Fockers is directed by Paul Weitz and hits UK cinemas on Friday 22nd December. You can see the trailer in our videos section over here.

Anyone less than satisfied with The Expendables can be happy with the latest news from of Robert Rodriguez's Machete. First shown to the world in a spoof Grindhouse trailer, Danny Trejo's bad-ass ex-Federale who loves his knives a little too much is looking every bit as angry in these sexy new posters. In case you're wondering, he carries 44 blades in that custom-made leather vest of his.
Playing on exploitation flicks with an unrivalled knowledge and passion, Rodriguez has proven his status as king of the B-Movie with the cast he's got lined up: Steven Seagal, Cheech Marin, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez. That rivals Stallone's efforts any day. If not, there's always the sequence where Machete rappels down a wall using a dead guy's intestines.
The suitably sleazy international trailer is exciting enough, but there's nothing quite like a big picture of a hairy Mexican - and that's exactly what we've got with the film's grimy new quad. You can read on for the second poster, which is significantly less hairy.
Machete is now out in the UK via Sony Pictures on Friday 26th November. Just in time for the holiday rush. This could be an even bigger family hit than Spy Kids. Check out the trailer over here.
